Travellers often can leave their home or normal place of work and may travel for several days or weeks without making contact with their home base. Routine communciations can be frustrated by the challenges of working in different time zones. In some cases travellers may not be missed until they are overdue on their planned day of return.

Safety Check Calls

An integral part of the Trango Safe Travel System (TSTS) is a safety check call made at regular pre-agreed intervals by travellers; these calls can be made to the organisations emergency communications centre or to Trango Operations. During these safety check calls, any changes to the planned travel itinerary can be passed to the operator, changes in the check call procedure agreed and any messages from the parent organisation can be passed to the traveller. Where appropriate the traveller can be passed details of incidents in the area which may impact his or her safety.

During the registration of the journey on TSTS, travellers define their own safety check call plan. The normal recommended check call frequency is daily but in some cases where travellers are exposed to extraordinary risk, this may be more frequent. In rare cases, especially where communications in the area is difficult, the frequency of safety check calls may be longer than 24 hours.

Travel Packs

Trango will provide remote area Trango Travel Packs which include satellite telephones when requested.

Emergency Support

At any time during a trip, a traveller may find themselves confronted by a situation and need assistance and advice. The emergency hotline service can be used to seek support and advice from Trango Operations.

Missed / Overdue Calls

For each individual journey, travellers define their own safety check call procedure. This includes the actions to be taken by the operator in the event that a call is missed. Plans include contact names and numbers for those to be informed, the time at which they should be notified and any other actions to be taken. Ultimately Trango will assist an organisation to establish the well being of a traveller.
